XSolo - Lathan's Gold - OK - let me be clear - I LOVE this module! True, it doesn't have any kind of extensive meaningful city adventures. In fact, the cities are woefully underdeveloped in this module. True, the various quests you get can be pretty crappy. True, the group battles are not the best. But man - what a fun extensive module! You get to island hop, you get to sail and explore, you can discover a volcano that spits out gold, you can hire a variety of ships and henchmen, and you get to track food supplies and restock whenever you hit the shore. This module is just fun!
Now, this module is a solo module so it is written for a single person to play by themselves. However, it would be easy enough for a DM to take over the module and expand the various cities. A hardworking and imaginative DM could create a campaign centered around this module. And incorporating some of the other expert modules that have been developed, this could be quite the campaign. Pick up some of the gazetteers for the surrounding kingdoms, and you will be well on your way to an exciting campaign that could take the characters to great levels! I just really love this module for laying out the basics and sail times between different cities and describing some of the various locations. Heck, this module could be used to get a party to The Isle of Dread, to Quagmire, to The Savage Coast, or to The War Rafts Of Kron. What a great beginning!
