XL1 Quest For The Heartstone is a nice little side adventure for characters to perform. The location of the Kingdom this adventure takes place in is not really identified - just some no-name kingdom. But it shouldn't be too difficult for an intrepid DM to determine a location for this module somewhere in Mystara. Maybe in Glantri or one of the other northern areas. At any rate - a nice little side quest for the characters to go through.
There are a number of tricks and traps in this module. I generally prefer more straightforward fighting - but it is a nice change of pace every once in a while. Characters have to figure out a magic elevator, make it through various pit traps and oil-burning traps, and deal with some pretty powerful creatures.
I wouldn't necessarily do much to change the module. I would definitely select a Mystaran setting. Maybe Glantri or Ethengar or The Northern Reaches - somewhere up that way. Also, there is absolutely no epilogue - what happens after the characters find the gemstone? What happens if the mage and/or thief get away? Do they attack the characters later out of vengeance? Do they attempt to steal the gemstone again at a later date? Do they recruit mercenaries to track down the PCs? Who is identified as the new King by the gemstone Does that selection process and coronation ceremony go smoothly? Lots of questions for the DM to work out - with absolutely no guidance from the module. And what is up with this evil duplicate thing? Did the gemstone do that? What else can this gemstone do exactly?? Lots of potential future fun!
