CM2 Death's Ride is in my opinion just OK. It does have lots of undead to destroy, it even has a battle against undead. The Barony is completely besieged, the people are in dire straits, and the characters are the only ones who can save everyone and everything. With all that excitement - why is the module just OK? Well - again - it is one of those modules that presents everything without any REAL cohesion. The characters wander around - stumble around - and hopefully figure out what is going on. I just personally prefer a more linear storyline. The players are always free to handle things in whatever order they want - I still prefer at least some kind of main scripted storyline. I don't like the lack of script.
So how would I change this module? Clearly, I would script up a nice flow for the players to follow in the module. Also, there is a mysterious mage and a mysterious cleric who are both involved in all of this - what the hell are their stories? No idea - no reasoning behind what they are doing or anything like that. UGH. Anyway - make up some stuff and play the adventure. But why am I buying a premade adventure if I have to make up stuff? Anyway - that is why it is only OK. There are about 4 pages missing to really fill in some details, along with the open gameplay which I almost never like. You know - personal preference. But boy do you get to kill a bunch of bad guys! I like that a lot!!
