BSOLO - Ghost Of Lion Castle

Well - what can I say about BSOLO Ghost of Lion Castle besides - man I loved this module! I sure wish that TSR had put out solo modules for all the different character classes, and along with basic level included other more advanced levels!

How did my first level mage survive? Well - I assure you it wasn't because I tried playing straight through as soon as I got my grubby little hands on this module. I personally don't think it is possible for a 1st level mage to survive this module in one simple go. After I had tried a couple of initial times and failed utterly, I just camped outside the castle for weeks on end. I had to bring extra supplies - more than the 3 weeks of iron rations described in the book - and I just camped out. I'd get a wandering monster every so often (hint - the sleep spell works really well), and by the time I was ready to enter the castle I was already 3rd level. A 3rd level solo mage in this module is probably still a little on the weak side - but it will get the job done if you are super careful and a bit lucky with the dice, along with amassing some magic items after camping outside the castle for a while.

Yet another strategy I employed - not really allowed in the module so much - hire henchmen to come with you - just ignore that pesky rule about one person at a time - it is your module - do what you want! And after you've played it - maybe you can turn it into a meaningful adventure for some of your friends! You have probably already mapped everything out in painstaking detail anyway - and you can always just increase the number of monsters. Or take the monsters listed and make lairs for each one of them somewhere in the castle.

I loved the solo module - as I mentioned at the top! My advice - use up the sample characters they have first before you send your own character in there. You can get used to the combat and get an idea of how difficult the various creatures are going to be along with doing some exploration and some mapping. And when you are finally ready to send your own carefully crafted character in there - take it slowly - and you can become the heir of Sargon!
