OK - B3 Palace of the Silver Princess is similar to B1 In Search Of The Unknown. The module also requires work from the DM to set up encounters in various areas. There are some encounters that are predetermined - but most aren't. Again - I don't like that. Why not just tell the DM how many monsters of what type are in each location then let the DM change things around as he or she likes? I don't know - maybe other people like this format. I don't. And since these are the only 2 basic modules that follow this format, and since the modules got progressively better about laying things out for the DM, I'm thinking that most DMs want a ready-to-play module when they buy a module. At least that is what I personally like. As I've said elsewhere - if I wanted to put work into an adventure I'd just write my own.
OK - good things about this module. I do like the storyline - it is pretty neat. The whole background story with the princess and red dragon really keeps the party speculating - that is fun. Also, keep in mind that this module came out before the Karameikos and Mystara were fully developed. In fact, the original D&D setting was developed as an intro to Advanced D&D and was not originally meant to be a separate game. But that is what ended up happening. So later on the setting for the module is moved into the Duchy of Karameikos instead of the unspecified region given in the module itself. All good though right?
